Short Bio
Mark currently works with Professor Marcus Hultmark on developing novel experimental methodologies for studying wind turbine aerodynamics at full dynamic similarity. This work makes use of a high-pressure wind tunnel to simultaneously match all relevant non-dimensional flow parameters between model and full-scale wind turbines. Doing so will allow unprecedented access to the flow structures and power generation characteristics of full scale turbines. Previously Mark earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University of Kentucky working on several NASA funded projects in collaboration with the Ames Research Center in California, and the Johnson Space Center in Texas. Included in this was the characterization of a miniature arc-heater for low-cost testing of ablative heat-shield materials for use on re-entry vehicles, roughness and flow transpiration effects on turbulent flow, and high-Reynolds number velocity sensor development.
