Doctoral student Nate Simon has received the Outstanding Presentation Award for Princeton Research Day 2023. He was one of five presenters to receive the award, which comes with a $1,500 prize.

Simon is a third year doctoral student, co-advised by MAE faculty members Anirudha Majumdar and Marcus Hultmark. You can watch Simon's entire presentation at Princeton Research Day here: Improving Drone Performance in Wind with Novel, Fast, Sensors.

The presentation discusses his research on unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones. Simon's research has focused on creating a fast and accurate omnidirectional flow sensor that can help to improve drone performance in adverse weather conditions. Currently, drones do not actively sense evolving wind conditions, instead reacting to wind only as it disrupts their flight path. As drones are used more frequently for tasks like search and rescue and package delivery, the ability to improve drone performance in windy conditions becomes more and more important.

Princeton Research Day is an annual celebration of early-career researchers. Princeton undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in all areas of study present their research to the public and Princeton University community.
