Interdepartmental Programs

Engineering Physics

Those students interested in applied physics can pursue a course of study within the department, which is integrated with the requirements of the Engineering Physics Program. Contact the Program Director Professor Steven A. Lyon (8-4635) for further information.

Engineering Management

Students with a strong interest in the systems and management aspects of an engineering career may combine departmental courses with the requirements of the Program in Engineering and Management Systems. Please contact the Program Director Professor Warren Powell (8-5373) for further information. A number of the program requirements satisfy departmental requirements as well.

Applied and Computational Mathematics

Students with interest in applied mathematics may use upper class electives to satisfy the requirements of the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics. Contact the Program Director Professor Peter Constantin (8-6303) for further information.

Engineering Biology

Some very interesting possibilities are available through the Program in Engineering Biology. Contact the Program Director Professor Celeste Nelson (8-8851) or MAE representative for the program Professor M.G. Littman (8-5198) for further information.

Robotics and Intelligent Systems

The  Program  is designed for Princeton undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers or graduate education in three general areas: i) The analysis, design, and development of systems that automate manufacturing, transportation, health care, environmental stewardship, scientific research, and other activities; ii) The creation of systems for learning, adaptation, decision-making, identification, estimation, and control using concepts drawn from cognitive and biological sciences, and iii)  The understanding of human intelligence from the perspective of neuroscience and computation.  Contact the Program Co-Directors Professor Thomas Funkhouser (COS) (8-1748); Professor Naveen Verma (ELE) (8-1424); or Professor Naomi Leonard (8-5129) for further information.

Materials Science and Engineering

The Program in Materials Science and Engineering provides a wide range of opportunities. Contact the Director, Professor Claire Gmachl (8-7489) or the Education Coordinator, Sandra Lam (8-6704).

Applications of Computing

The Program in Applications of Computing is an interdisciplinary program designed for students who wish to combine the study of computing and computers beyond an introductory level with another academic concentration. Computing plays an increasingly large role in society in general and in the scholarly activities of many academic disciplines in particular. An understanding of computing principles is an excellent complement to the study of other disciplines in the humanities, arts and social sciences, as well as the sciences and engineering. Students in this program will gain a knowledge of computing fundamentals and skills that have wide applicability. For further information please contact the director of the program Professor Jaswinder Singh (8-5329).
