Yiguang Ju, Robert Porter Patterson Professor, was awarded the 2017 Distinguished Visiting Fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering. With this fellowship, he will visit Brunel University London for up to one month this fall to collaborate on "Plasma assisted ignition and combustion for engine applications and to give the fellow seminars at several other UK universities for international research collaboration.
Julia Mikhailova, received the Alfred Rheinstein Award. Her research interests are in theory and experimental studies of intense light-matter interactions. The award goes to "young instructors in the School of Engineering who have shown exceptional promise, and to assist said instructors to further their work in their chosen fields."
The Virtues of Nuclear Ignorance
Congratulations to Jesse Ault, who won the 2016 MAE Research Day prize for his talk "Vortex-breakdown-induced Particle Capture in Branching Junctions." Jesse's research is in the Fluid Mechanics area and he is advised by Professor Howard Stone. Jesse is also the recipient of the Harold W. Dodds Honorific Fellowship for the 2016-17 academic year.
