Femtosecond Laser Electronic Excitation Tagging (FLEET) is being studied in gas mixtures for applications in high-speed flow and combustion diagnostics. Multi-photon dissociation of molecular nitrogen produces a long-lived florescence (labeled) as the nitrogen atoms recombine in an excited state. Spectra and intensified camera images of the tagged line provide insight into the nature of the FLEET process in environments containing various concentrations of oxygen, argon, helium, carbon dioxide and methane.
