Teaching Fellow/Senior Teaching Fellow (Senior Lecturer/Lecturer) in Data Science Department of Engineering Mathematics
The Department of Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint Teaching Fellow (Lecturers) and a Senior Teaching Fellow (Senior Lecturer) on open-ended (i.e., “permanent”) contracts. Both posts will be in our Pathway 3 job family (Teaching and Citizenship). Candidates are sought with a strong track record of teaching that is consistent with the aims and ethos of the Department. Being the only department of its kind in the country, Engineering Mathematics offers a unique education to its students focussing on creative problem solving for real-world problems which combines both data and mathematical modelling. A passion for innovation in research-led teaching is essential, developing new ways of integrating teaching and research, and linking our teaching with end users including industry. These posts are being offered on a full-time, open ended contract, but applicants seeking a part-time or fractional appointment are also encouraged to apply. For these posts we are particularly interested in individuals who can contribute to our newly-established MSc degrees in Data Science, and in Financial Technology with Data Science. Details of the teaching provided by our MSc Data Science can be found at www.bristol.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/2021/eng/msc-data-science/
You will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching in several areas of Engineering Mathematics across the Department at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. Areas of the curriculum consist broadly of mathematics, computing, and engineering, with particular specialisms in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, nonlinear dynamics, robotics, collective dynamics, and mathematical and computational biology. Styles of teaching include delivering in-person lectures and lab sessions, production of online content such as video-lectures, and supervision of student projects. The Department of Engineering Mathematics has an excellent teaching environment and has been ranked Number 1 in the UK for General Engineering in both the 2020 and 2021 Guardian University League Tables.
We have access to world-class teaching facilities that have been specifically designed for our students' educational needs and the programmes that we provide. We are located in central Bristol which is consistently recognized as one of the UK’s most-liveable cities.
Informal enquires are welcome and can be directed to: Prof. Tony Mulholland, Head of the Department of Engineering Mathematics (firstname.lastname@example.org); or Prof. Dave Cliff (email@example.com), academic lead for the MSc in Data Science, and for the MSc in Financial Technology with Data Science.
