The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the area of experimental fluid dynamics or experimental solid mechanics.
The AEM department has vibrant and active research programs in all areas of aerospace engineering and mechanics, including fluid dynamics, hypersonics, aerospace systems, computational mechanics and aerospace structures and materials. The department is in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, which is a world-class research university with outstanding resources and programs in engineering and science, health sciences, social sciences and liberal arts. Applicants for the position must have an earned doctorate in a related field by the date of appointment. The successful candidate is expected to have the potential to conduct a vigorous and significant research program and the ability to collaborate with researchers with a wide range of viewpoints. This candidate will participate in all aspects of the Department's mission, including (I) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses to a diverse group of students in aerospace engineering and mechanics; (II) participating in service activities for the department, university, broader scientific community, and society; and (III) supervising undergraduate and graduate students and developing an independent, externally-funded, research program.
The intent is to hire at the assistant professor rank. However, exceptional applicants may be considered for higher rank and tenure depending upon experience and qualifications. It is anticipated that the appointment will begin fall 2021.
