Assistant Professor in Space Systems - UC San Diego

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE, http://maeweb.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California, San Diego, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position from candidates in Aerospace Engineering with a strong focus on research in space-based science and technologies and associated applications. Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to, low-cost and/or reusable launch systems technologies; emerging spacecraft propulsion or thermal systems; novel sensor or control systems; small, micro and nanosatellites; spacecraft, vehicle and mission design; satellite constellation design and control; and life extension using new small attachable satellites to provide fresh power or upgraded electronics to existing satellites.  

The required job duties include developing an excellent research program, teaching of university students, and service activities. As such, successful faculty candidates will demonstrate potential for teaching excellence and the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity in their research area. In addition, preferred candidates will have demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and have a desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives 

A Ph.D. degree (or advanced to candidacy) is required in the area of Engineering or a related discipline. We especially welcome candidates who have contributed to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students or faculty in engineering and who are committed to, and experienced in, building an excellent and diverse academic environment.
