Short Bio

Xiaoyu Tang is a Ph. D. candidate in Prof. Chung K. Law's lab where she works on combustion and fluid mechanics. Her research focuses on the dynamics of droplet when colliding with other liquid surfaces such as another droplet or liquid film. She utilizes color interferometry to measure the thickness of the gas layer trapped between the liquid interfaces, which is crucial in determining the collision outcome: merging or bouncing. She has also studied droplet combustion close to extinction. Xiaoyu received her Bachelor's degree from Department of Thermal Engineering at Tsinghua University in 2011. She is the recipient of the Summerfield Fellowship.
